One of the first neighbors we met was actually the daughter of the man who had lived across the street for more than 40years and had recently passed away. She was cleaning out the house and asked if we wanted any of the furniture... which we did. I am pretty sure most of it had been in the house for the full 40 somethig years that they lived there, but hey, Sean and I were coming from a 700 sq ft. apartment and had about 2000 extra square feet we needed to furnish so we snagged 3 chairs, and old sofa, some yard tools, and a brand new tempurpedic twin bed.
For the first few months the new furniture just sat in our ugly green carpeted formal living room and held boxes and other objects with no real home. But a few weeks ago we ripped up the green carpet and were pleased to find very nice hardwoods underneath. Thus, I was inspired to buy a slipcover for the sofa and would have bought one for the chair, but sadly I couldn't find one that fit.
So Sean suggested I just make one, and I did. Which is why I said my sewing machine is magic. Its not like it was really complicated, but somehow I was able to channel the title of my sewing machine and all the confidence I needed to whip up a slipcover for my chair... in under 3 hours no less. No pattern, no previous experience just a whole lot of inexpensive cotton and a little trial and error.

Awesome!!! I need some lessons...I think slipcovers are intimidating, but I have never actually attempted one. My mom tried once (and she can sew really well) and had trouble, so I thought it was a lost cause...
Maybe if I ever get moved to that area, we can sew together!
impressive sister . . . and very cute.
Lauren, I have sewn for years and slipcovers are very intimidating, so I think you must have gift because the one you made looks great. I made one for my oldest daughter years ago and Ifound the most frustrating part was working with all the fabric.
I hope you post pictures of your hardwood floor, I have a thing about hardwood floors and get so excited when people find them hidden under years of old flooring.
