Monkey Business

Okay I was excited to do the owls because they were for a dear friend, but I also had another set of cookies to do this weekend, and I was excited to do them because they were MONKEYS. And if you've looked around here a bit you know we have a little bit of a "thing" for monkeys in our house. These are a totally different gear from the owls and toadstools , and I was actually quite nervous because they were totally freehand, but I am admittedly quite satisfied with the results.

These were done for my friend's mother in law. She sent me the invitation via email. Isn't it cute? And they wanted something to give out as a favor. So I was very brave...

And freehand piped the monkey. With a little less detail, but I'm not going to lie I'm kind of in love. And I have to admit he wasn't all the complicated to do. The head, head body and ears are just circles... then i added the light tan parts, then the diaper, then the arms legs and tail, then the face (i meant to add a belly button, but totally forgot), then the diaper pins and polkies and there he was!
And since the big cookies were for favors, I did some small circles with the same colors and different patterns to put out during the shower.

And then put the monkeys in cute little swirly bags with blue and brown ribbon.

I'm back... but not settled yet.

Okay, when I started this blog I swore to myself that I wouldn't neglect it for months on end. Ehh so much for that. But I have a pretty good excuse. For the last 4 weeks I've been traveling back and forth to Delaware every week, and simply haven't been home long enough to bake ANYTHING let alone blog. Sean and I are actually relocating up there the first of September so I'm not sure when I'll be settled and in a routine where I will blog regularly again. But to hold you over, until then I came home on Thursday last week because I had so much baking to do last weekend and ended up with some seriously cute cookies! These were really fun to do because they were for a shower I was hosting and a really good friend. Shes having her first baby in Sept, but not really into all things frilly and girly. So we took her to the craft store to pick out some paper for the invitations and ran off with a "theme" from there.

This is the paper that started it all. Sadly, this image does not really do it justice. The colors are actually much brighter crisper. Even though its a vintage design the background is white not "aged" as it appears below, but you can generally get the idea and see the inspiration...

See, the owl! Hes really cute, and it helps that Cheryl loves owls.

And toadstools :) I'm not sure why i like to call them toadstools instead of mushrooms, but I do.

Awww, here they are all together.

And before you scroll down, let me just tell you that another one of our friends made both of those cakes. And yes I realize that they totally upstage the cookies, but I just love how personal the whole thing was. Ohh yeah, the diaper cake was made by another one of the hostesses too.

More cookies and cakes... it was a really great shower.
